You know, I saw something tonight that DIDN'T make me as nauseous as I suspected it would. The Chicago Cubs won their series and are heading to the NLCS. Odd. I saw the Cubs win a playoff series for the first time in almost 100 years. Millions of people have died not seeing that. Millions of people have had complete lifetimes in that timespan.
I'm all about the underdog this year in baseball. I think I'm glad to see the Small Bears win because of who they beat (the Atlanta Braves) as much as the fact that the “Loveable Losers” finally one. I was estatic when the Twins shocked the Yankees in Game 1, if only to wind up losing the series. I would have given nearly anything to see the Yankees fall. Oh well.
I'm one of these fans that think the Wildcard playoffs are a good thing. I think it's great that it keeps more teams “in it” longer. That means that more teams have a shot of beating whoever won the Series last year. I get bored seeing the same teams win the Series. I am so tired of seeing the Yankees win the series.
The Yankees are a funny group. Yes, it's a team that was built with money. People argue that they buy their Championships every year. See, that's the problem. It takes the sport out of it. There are plenty of players on that team that I like and are legitimate. Certainly, there are some that are mediocre but on a great team and others that everyone loves to hate. But because the fans get the feeling that it's artificially grown, no one likes it. Baseball fans are funny too, by the way.
Anyway, go Cubs! Go Marlins! (but don't beat the Cubs!) Go Twins (yeah I know. They already lost)! As long as it's not the Yankees.
Congrats, Dan Fox
