Interesting little find...

Well, I had to go to Lomira, WI (about 1.5 hours NW of MKE) last Thursday and Friday for business.  Thursday night, I went to dinner at a place a coworker recommended after he found it while exploring a neighboring town, Fon du Lac.  Fusion Cafe was a completely unexpected treat.  It is totally a hip, progressive, classy restaurant in the middle of a little town in Dairyland, USA.

While I don't completely understand how it got to Fon du Lac, I'm glad it's there.  It's an exotic, fresh place that obviously has a specific impression it's trying to make.  The first thing you'll notice is the architecture and decorations.  It used to be a theater, I was told, so the spaces are very open.  It's decorated in a mixture of stainless steel, stained glass, and soft fluffy furniture and hanging art.  Next, you'll certainly notice that the service is exemplary.  I was floored.  The servers were extremely attentive, without being a nuisance; conversational and pleasant without being overly chatty or unprofessionally friendly.  This, is a key point for me in a new restaurant.  Service is always the key.  They were quick to answer when I asked for recommendations and followed up to ensure it met my expectations.

It did.  The food was simply amazing.  As if finding this jewel wasn't enough, the food was nothing short of phenomenal.  Granted, I spent $45 on myself (without drinks), but it was fun to splurge a little.  I had their kicked-up bruchetta (awesome!), a FABULOUS ribeye, and a piece of key lime pie (satisfyingly good, but not great).  Granted, it was a little pricy, but the leisurely 2 hour experience of a Chicago-esque modern eatery in the charming nook of Fon du Lac, was totally worth it.

The only thing that could have made the evening better is if the Red Sox could have closed the door on the Yankees.  Oh well.  Fusion Cafe didn't have much to do with that, I guess...  :)
