Some of you may or not know that I have a background in Pharmacy. While I don't practice, it's certainly been a continued interest of mine both personally and professionally (in IT). It's been interesting that while I enjoy keeping up (the best I can) with medical news, and it's certainly provided me unique projects and opportunities as an IT consultant with such a varied background. Usually, those projects involved evaluating and suggesting processes used within healthcare environments.
Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised today to see an article that evidenced someone actually paying attention to and contributing some intelligent thought to Pharmacy, specifically retail in the article's case, and the relationship and impact to patients.
It seems that even though it's been widely documented that the prescription bottle has been a huge problem area for medication mistakes (that's even assuming they're getting the correct prescription in the first place), it's taken until recently to confront that problem and address it.
After reading the article, you'll see that some serious thought has gone in to that redesign. I'm stoked to hear that Target Pharmacies will be rolling out the new format on May 1. I don't think it'll be long before the rest of the retail industry follows, and hopefully not long after that the rest of the pharmaceutical industries (Clinics, Long Term Care facilities, hospitals, doctor's offices, etc) get on board.
Good work, Deborah Adler. Thanks for your effort.
Later.
