Never again will I poke fun of Silver Dollar City (SDC). Truly, I poked fun where it wasn't warranted and I had no clue what I was talking about.
SDC is both a fantastic park and an upstanding corporate organization that stands for morals and values when most companies only care about appealing to the masses. Could they make more money by compromising the standards they've set (as stated in their mission statement)? Sure. Do other amusement parks generate revenue by selling alcohol? You bet. I'm not arguing the merits or perils of alcohol. I'm just amazed that SDC has set a bar that they refuse to lower.
What they've achieved, on a morals/values front, is nothing short of amazing. Not only is there no alcohol on the grounds, in general the language was clean(er), clothing was fairly decent, the music on the PA system was of the bluegrass gospel variety, and some of their acts even incorporate Biblical themes.
This isn't surprising when one reads their corporation's mission statement. You'll notice their slogan summarizes that they want to help create "memories worth repeating". Their mission statement clearly acknowledges their desire to adhere to Christian values. (Granted, "Christian" as a term is used broadly these days, but I've appreciated what I've seen thus far.)
In any case, it's a legitimately good park that's safe for the entire family, priced well both in terms of tickets and in-park goods, and pretty much a sure-fire way to spend a great couple of vacation days.
Later.
